A tribute to my mother

In less than a week my mom is going to turn 51. Looking back on half of those years, I personally know how fast they must have flown by. I feel like my three years of being a mother have felt like seconds sometimes. Maybe the first 6 years couldn't have gone by fast enough at moments, being a single mother. Then finding someone special to share her life and her child with life was less stressful, and finally she was able to spend that time, not working three jobs just to support me, but raising me herself. Making my lunches, doing my hair, taking me to school, going on my field trips. As I got older going to all my sports events. Investing in me. My friends always loved to talk to her, she was open and laid back, very easy to talk to, something not all parents take the time to do. I appreciated that she was a good listener and always made me feel like she was on my side. Even if she didn't agree with my thoughts or feelings she validated them, she showed she remembered what it was like to be in my stage. When I get those opportunities in the future I want to learn from her example.

God has given my mom such creativity! The things she makes and creates never fail to amaze me. And she is so generous with that gift, always making things for others. Another example of her generosity is giving away things she doesn't need or has more than enough of. A little over 3 years ago when i worked at the family center she asked me if I know of a woman that needed plates. She had a whole matching set of dinnerware that needed a good home. And when I had a clothes drive give away at the center she had the opportunity to give it to my Muslim friend. She had some plates but they were all cheap mismatched plates, nothing to be proud of when serving guests. My friend was so overwhelmed and happy to receive this hand delivered gift, she hugged my mom repeatedly. Till this day she asks me how my mom is doing. It is a running joke that we can never leave my mom and dads house without a box or bag or both of stuff she is sending home iwth us, NEVER. I try to send people home with things too. Recently my dad was over and it was I who sent him home with stuff, a jar of rejected pickles (rejected from my daughter) and a Huge cucumber. Well, its a start.

God has made a woman's heart strong. Strong in the way she gives, strong in her desire and pleasure to create, strong in the fierce way she loves, strong in her intuition and confident fight for the helpless and needy. My mom is one example of this strength. Through these glimpses at her and who she was created to be, I see things about my own creator that I love so much.

Happy Birthday Mom!

पोट्टी ट्रेनिंग राउंड तवो?

huh? In case you were wondering that says "potty training round two?" in hindi. just getting myself familiar before i start to study it hard core:) let me know by the way if you needed no explanation...:)

so i have been wondering when i should start potty training malachi, he will be 2 soon and every child is different. i have heard boys are later than girls but a second child throws curve balls into that idea.

arwyn just had to go potty and i told her to use my toilet since we were all in my room. malachi decided he wanted to too:

C: potty mommy
M:what? you want to go potty?
C: mmmhmmm!
M: (deciding that i better start encouraging it if i want it to be sooner rather than later)OK, lets go!

I was about to put him on my potty when i realized i better start from square one, not just jump in where arwyn is.So we went to thier bathroom where the potty seat is. I toook off his diaper and set him on the potty seat and said " ok , go." shortly after that I realized "he is boy, you can't just plop him on like you can a girl, you have to scoot him back and tuck it in, ooohhhh this was going to be more complicated!".

so i scooted him back and tucked in down

A: what are you doing mom?
M: um....... boys are different than girls.
C: need it mom...(pointing to the toilet paper)
M: no, boys dont use toilet paper
A: why?
M: cause they just wiggle it and thats it, they use topilet paper for poop though (trying to avoid any more questions about the prior statement)
M: chi are you all done?
C: no, need toilet paper
M: nope that's not for you right now
C: im all done

I go to put his diaper on

C: no diaper!

hah! if only it was that easy!

suddenly a fun experiment to get him excited about potty training became so complicated... maybe we will wait a year for part two!

Child Labor

Today we brought Daddy his lunch, and I didnt feel much like making it ;)I should have taken a picture of the sandwich, it had a mini bite taken out of it, Malachi was a little confused that it was for Daddy.

A great book!

If you give a mouse a cookie is a great book! Here they are enjoying it with daddy. This particular one has the mouse story and If you give a pig a pancake, and If you give a moose a muffin. It also has a cd and the music to the songs in the book, as well as muffin, cookie, and pancake recipes. We love it!

McKinely Park

Last week I met up with freinds from out of town, Melissa (and her 5 girls)and Danielle (and her cute little man, Isaiah) at the Mckinely park, where Josiah and I got married in the Rose Garden almost 6 years ago(and my moma and dad did 31 years ago.)It was a hot (100) day, luckily there was an area in the shade.

my best friend

it used to be that most of the time they got along great, like here, eating candy under ONE blanket and watching thier show. But lately they are in more fights than not. Maybe when Arwyn starts preschool after labor day, they will miss eachother and get along a little more. Did you catch that Arwyn is starting preshcool!
